Film Production & Digital Literacy Programs for NYC Schools

Students learn storytelling, filmmaking, and digital literacy through hands-on media projects that emphasize creativity, collaboration, and career readiness. Programs can be customized for classrooms, after-school programs, CTE pathways, work-based learning initiatives, and student film festivals.

About the Programs

Film Production & Careers in Media

Through collaborative projects, students develop skills in screenwriting, directing, cinematography, editing, sound recording, and production management while strengthening communication, leadership, and teamwork. Each program is designed to give students practical experience and a deeper understanding of career opportunities within the media industry.

Whether producing a short film, organizing a student film festival, or exploring digital storytelling, students gain the technical knowledge and professional habits needed to succeed in creative and media-focused careers.

Digital Literacy & Professional Skills

Students develop the digital skills expected in today's creative and professional environments beyond the filmmaking workspace.

Students gain experience with:

  • Desktop file organization and media management

  • Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive)

  • Adobe Creative Cloud workflows

  • Professional email and communication

  • Production scheduling and spreadsheets

  • Collaborative digital workflows and asset management

Professional Development for Educators

In addition to student programming, professional development workshops are available for teachers interested in integrating media production, digital storytelling, and project-based filmmaking into their classrooms. Workshops can be customized to support classroom instruction, interdisciplinary learning, CTE pathways, and student media projects. Educators receive practical strategies, production resources, and curriculum frameworks that can be adapted to a wide range of grade levels and subject areas.

Program Leadership

Programs are led by Amnon Carmi, an NYC DOE Authorized Vendor, filmmaker, and educator with experience teaching filmmaking at both the high school and university levels. His student productions have involved more than 100 young filmmakers, and students have gone on to work on professional productions, gain admission to college film programs, and become SAG-eligible performers.

Amnon has also partnered with schools to develop paid work-based learning opportunities through programs including SYEP, DYCD, and SWEF, connecting students with hands-on industry experiences while earning compensation for their work. He regularly mentors students through the production of original films and media projects, helping them create work that has been showcased at events such as the NYC Public School Film Festival and other public exhibitions throughout New York City.

In addition to teaching students, Amnon provides professional development workshops for educators seeking to incorporate media production and digital storytelling into their curriculum.
